Neighbourhood Planning

Neighbourhood Planning

A new page has been added to the Council’s website on Neighbourhood Planning, which is supported by a frequently asked questions document providing guidance on how to prepare a Neighbourhood Development Plan (NDP). Neighbourhood Planning is a Government initiative to empower local communities to shape a future of the places where they live and work.

The new web page forms part of a new section of the website on community-led planning. The section also includes guidance on parish plans and village design statements, which are the other tools that can assist local communities to achieve their future vision for their area.

The Localism Act 2011 introduced the legal framework for Neighbourhood Planning and the preparation of NDPs by parish councils and town councils in conjunction with the community they represent.

The Council has a legal duty to support the preparation of Neighbourhood Planning at key stages of the process and ensure that the Neighbourhood Regulations are complied with. The Statement of Community Involvement in Planning Matters (September 2013) sets out the Council’s statutory role.

The new webpage can be found here.
