Recent flooding in Test Valley – workshop for councillors Saturday 21 June 2014 – 9.30am to 12noon at King’s Somborne Village Hall

Leader of the Council, Councillor Ian Carr, has arranged for a workshop to take place in June for members to learn more about the role that councillors and communities can play in increasing local resilience to flooding. The workshop is particularly aimed at borough councillors. In addition, each parish council and local flood committee will be invited to send a representative to attend the event.

The workshop aims to learn from the recent floods by looking at the experiences of communities in the borough. In particular, we will look at the experiences of Shipton Bellinger and King’s Somborne, where local resilience plans were already in place. In addition, members of the County Council’s Emergency Planning team will be on hand to give advice about how to develop a local resilience plan. We will also use the workshop to receive feedback on the lessons that can be learnt for the future.

It is expected that representatives from the Environment Agency, Hampshire Fire and Rescue and Hampshire Constabulary will be in attendance. An invitation will also be extended to Southern Water.
