Affordable Homes Target Beaten

The total number of  affordable homes for 2011/12 is 220, which exceeds the Councils target of 200. Of these, 29 were built in villages which again exceeds our target of 15 rural homes per year.

Of the 220 homes, 10 have been built to wheelchair standard. There has also been a considerable rise in the number of family homes as opposed to flats in comparison to the last year. Overall, 79% of the homes were for General Needs Rent, with a further 21% for Shared Ownership, (which is part buy part rent).

The Mortgage Rescue scheme accounted for thirteen of the homes. This scheme allows owner occupiers who are experiencing difficulty paying their mortgage and could become homeless, to convert their home from owner occupation to social renting from a housing association.
