Leaf Collection Update

The Council makes great efforts to keep the streets clean and free from rubbish all year round but during the autumn months there is the added problem of collecting tonnes of leaves from highways, footways and verges.  Each year, a special team collects as many leaves as possible to keep roads and footways safe and clear. This year 473 tonnes of leaves were collected and delivered to a local composting plant, where they were recycled into Pro-Grow. Another great seasonal recycling effort is with Christmas trees.During January, the Council set up six temporary disposal points across the Borough for the recycling of real Christmas trees. This year, the number of tress collected increased by 268, taking the total number of trees to 1215, the highest number we have ever collected!  All of the collected trees are being composted locally to produce Pro-Grow soil conditioner.   Composting the trees also helps to increase the Borough’s recycling rate.
