Affordable Housing Update

Kings Somborne has the largest affordable homes development to be delivered in Test Valley and these will be completed in early February 2012. People with a strong local connection to the village will have priority and the rented scheme is made up of: 2 x 1 bed flats, 2 x 1 bed houses, 4 x 2 bed flats, 8 x 2 bed houses, 3 x 3 bed houses, 2 x 4 bed houses

The whole affordable housing development programme in Test Valley remains very active.

There are three major developments in Test Valley now on-site and building will be ongoing for some time on these phased developments. A brief overview of the affordable homes being built, nearing completion or recently completed is as follows:-

  • East Anton (Augusta Park),Andover: Sentinel Housing, one of our preferred Registered Provider partners, are working to develop and manage these affordable homes. They have taken over 229 affordable homes so far and eventually the development will give 1,000 new affordable homes which will be built in phases over a period.
  • Picket Twenty,Andover: Overall this development will give 480 affordable homes. Phase 1A and Phase 1B are being managed by Spectrum Housing Group who are anticipating the completion of 79 affordable homes by March 2012. A further 46 affordable dwellings should be ready for handover by July 2012.
  • Abbotswood, Romsey: This should deliver 320 affordable homes to be built in phases. Sovereign Housing has secured the Taylor Wimpy site and are hoping to see the first completions around April 2012. Overall, the Taylor Wimpey parcels of land will be providing 98 affordable homes for southernTestValley.
  • Sunfield Close (formerly King George Allotment site)Andover: Sunfield Close is due for completion towards the end of January 2012. This      development, built to Code Level 4 of the national guide for sustainable homes, was won by Radian in a competitive process. There are 17 new affordable homes, 12 for social rent and 5 for shared ownership. Two of the houses for rent are built to wheelchair standard.
  • Mylen Road & Junction Road,Andover: There are two other sites in Andover earmarked for affordable housing. Both were former Jewson sites and demolition is currently taking place. MylenRoad will provide 45 new affordable homes with Junction Road delivering 35. These will comprise of a mix of rented and shared ownership tenure and will range from 1 bed flats to 4 bed houses.
  • Over Wallop.On completion of a scheme in Over Wallop on 24 November, 8 very happy tenants signed up for their new homes which were provided primarily for people with a strong local connection to the village. The scheme where all the dwellings are for rent, comprises of: 2 x 1 bed houses, 5 x 2 bed houses, 1 x 3 bed house
  • Awbridge. The new affordable homes in Awbridge are due for completion in January 2012. There will be 10 new homes and priority will be given to people with a strong local connection. Scheme details for this all rented development are: 3 x 1 bed flats, 5 x 2 bed houses, 1 x 3 bed house, 1 x 4 bed house
