Growing opportunities at Test Valley Borough Council

Test Valley Borough Council has announced that three new Horticulture Apprenticeships are available in its Environmental Services grounds maintenance team.

The apprenticeships are based on 18 month contracts and consist of on-the-job training and attendance at Sparsholt College. This will enable the apprentices to gain a real understanding of, and practical skills in, the wide variety of grounds maintenance services the Council provides.  The apprentices will also develop invaluable skills for their future careers while working as part of a wider team dedicated to improving the local environment for both residents and visitors. The college based learning will take place on a day-release basis at Sparsholt College, where the apprentices will undertake more formal horticulture training as well as completing practical assignments and tasks.

The apprentices will have the opportunity to gain a competence based qualification such as an NVQ or work-based Diploma.

The apprentices will be on a fixed term contract. There may be full time opportunities within the Council at the end of this period.

The apprenticeships have been created following the retirement of an employee who had worked for the Council all his life.

Candidates can apply online by going to  The closing date for applications is 4 December 2011.
